Litani River (Lebanon)

Specific Problems:

		Delay in cultivations from February till April/May due to the extensive flooding of arable lands.
		Decrease in the agricultural production per hectare.
		Reduction of farmers’ income.
		Alteration of the watercourse due to garbage disposal, illegal constructions and vegetative growth
		Uncontrolled water pumping.
		Lack of technical assistance for the farmers in the region.

Jordan Valley (Jordan)

Specific Problems:

		Water shortage.
		High levels of salinity in the soil and water.
		Lack of efficient filtration units along King Abdullah Canal.
		Poor operation and maintenance practices of the on farm irrigation network  ( improper filtration, frequent clogging,...)
		Improper hydraulic design of on-farm irrigation systems

Specific Activities:

		Logistic activities
		Installation of self-cleaning trash racks at some turn out of King Abdullah Canal in collaboration with the Jordan Valley Authority
		Installation of filtration units, fertigation kits and irrigation networks on 30 pilot farm units
		Cooperation and coordination with other EU missions in the area such as GTZ and MREA
		Rehabilitation and equipment of the laboratory for soil and water analyses at Deir Alla Station
		Training NCARTT staff
		Enhancing Regional and International Cooperation
